Prized Fish Tag Brings Exciting Finish to a Morning Session

Stephen Lamprey was enjoying a productive morning fishing from his favourite spot from the shore of South Riana Lake when an ordinary cast turned into an unforgettable catch.

Having already landed four quality fish and preparing to call it a day, Stephen hooked another fish on his trusted Gulp Minnow Shad. At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. But as he reeled the fish closer to shore, he caught sight of a tag attached to its side and the excitement immediately kicked in.

"Things got pretty tense from that point on," Stephen said. "I just wanted to make sure I got it safely into the net."

Once the fish was secured, Stephen quickly called his partner to confirm the tag colour. When she told him it was a yellow tag, the reality of his prized recapture set in.

"I was absolutely over the moon," he said.

The lucky catch was just one of many fish Stephen has landed from South Riana Lake this season. He said the fishery has been fishing exceptionally well, with fish in outstanding condition.

Stephen's memorable recapture is another great example of the excitement the Tagged Trout Promotion brings to anglers around the state, proving that every cast could be worth far more than just a great fish.

Two weeks in and already 4 tagged trout have been caught as part of the 2026-27 Tagged Trout Promotion. That’s $20,000 already won by lucky anglers. There are still 41 tagged fish to be caught as part of the promotion, including the grand prize of $25,000 for the first tagged fish captured out of Yingina / Great Lake. If the great fishing that is currently being enjoyed around the state isn’t enough inspiration to wet a line, there is the added bonus that you might strike it rich!
