Stay safe on the water this trout season

With the 2026-27 freshwater angling season underway, our friends at Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) have published an informative article on the dangers of solo boating and some top tips for staying safe out on the water.

Top tips for boating alone:

• Tell someone exactly where you are going and when you expect to return.
• Wear a life jacket at all times, not stowed away where it can’t help you.
• Wear your kill switch whenever the vessel is underway.
• Check weather conditions before you leave.
• Carry a reliable means of communication.
• Keep a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) on your person at all times.
• Most importantly, consider taking a mate with you.

With the new trout season underway, MAST and the IFS want everyone to enjoy Tasmania’s outstanding inland waterways and return home safely!
