The Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) congratulates Mr Nick May on his appointment to the vacant position (Ministerial appointment) on the Inland Fisheries Advisory Council (IFAC). Mr May commenced his four-year term on 28 July 2026.

The appointment follows a public expression of interest process undertaken earlier this year.

Mr May is a trout fishing guide and the current President of Trout Guides and Lodges Tasmania. He brings a strong connection to Tasmania's trout fishery, along with significant public sector experience gained through previous senior executive roles at TasTAFE.

IFAC was established in 2000 under the Inland Fisheries Act 1995. Its primary role is to advise the Minister on matters relating to inland fisheries. The Council also provides a forum for consultation, promotes understanding of the functions of the Director of Inland Fisheries, encourages community support for fisheries management activities, and reviews management plans for inland fisheries.

The IFS welcomes Mr May's contribution to the Council and looks forward to his involvement in supporting the sustainable management of Tasmania's inland fisheries.
