The River Derwent lived up to its reputation of being a hot spot to fish early in the season. Despite cold windy conditions anglers were out in force with impressive catches of trout falling to lures both trolled and cast from a boat. Shore based anglers also had success with reports of fish being caught from the estuary right up into the rapids above New Norfolk. Evident in catches were a nice cohort (age class) of young healthy fish in the 600 – 1200 gram range with a number of reports of larger fish being caught and lost.
