An estuary rather than a true river. Starting in Launceston where the South and North Esk rivers discharge. The estuary is subject to large tidal movements. The best fishing is found at the Tamar Tailrace. The tailrace is a result of the South Esk Hydro Electric system. The Tamar is open all year round and known for its' sea run trout fishery.
