Freshwater Angling Licences are now available for the 2025-26 Fishing Season

The new angling season opens on Friday 1 August with brown trout waters open from Saturday 2 August 2025. Be prepared and purchase your licence now!
This season, if you are aged between 18 and 21 years of age, you can once again benefit from a heavily discounted licence as part of the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) Young Angler Licence Promotion.
Junior anglers aged between 14 and 17 years of age require a licence to fish Tasmania’s inland lakes and rivers for trout, and the good news is that junior licences will continue to be free for the coming season!
Junior anglers under 14 years of age do not require an angling licence.
New licences, or licence renewals, can be obtained by visiting Service Tasmania, various fishing tackle stores, or from the IFS website: www.ifs.tas.gov.au
All funds generated from the sale of licences go directly into managing your inland fishery.
Licence fees contribute to stocking of inland waters, creating, improving and maintaining access to the fishery, compliance related activities, undertaking various research programs, fishery stock assessments, threatened species monitoring, pest fish management, stakeholder engagement and collaboration activities and ongoing environmental advocacy work.
We couldn’t do this important work without your ongoing support, so thank you!
