TWWHA Ground Shooting Deer Control Program
🚨 Partial Closure – Central Plateau Conservation Area
Monday 27 April – Sunday 31 May 2026
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania (NRE Tas) will undertake wild fallow deer control in the eastern section of the Central Plateau Conservation Area.
The Parks and Wildlife Service has advised that to ensure safe and effective ground shooting operations, the area will be closed to all users from Monday 27 April to Sunday 31 May 2026. The boundary includes the areas east of Talinah Track, west of Highland Lakes Road and north of Marlborough Road.
Volunteers from the Australian Deer Association and the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia will assist ground shooting operations.
Unauthorised public entry is not permitted. It is not safe to enter these areas.
To ensure safe and effective operations, the hunting zones will be closed to all users from Monday 27 April to Sunday 31 May 2026. The boundary includes the areas east of Talinah Track, south of the Augusta Road, west of Highland Lakes Road and north of Marlborough Road.

Please note - the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) was only recently made aware of the area closure dates and apologises to anglers who were planning on accessing this area in the final week of the brown trout angling season which closes on Sunday 3 May 2026.
