Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion - 2025-26 Angling Season (*conditions apply)

The Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) is continuing the Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion for the 2025-26 trout fishing season. The new promotion commences on Saturday 2 August, in-line with the 2025-26 brown trout fishing season, and is designed to encourage people to go trout fishing and support regional economies.

This season will see a total of 30 tagged trout released into 13 different waters across the state.

The first tagged trout captured from Yingina / Great Lake, on or after the 2 August 2025, will win $25,000! All other tagged trout from Yingina / Great Lake and around Tasmania during the Promotion will win $5,000 (conditions apply).

The tags are yellow and have unique identifying details.

The waters with tagged fish are:

    • Lake Mackintosh
    • Lake Rowallan
    • Lake Burbury
    • Huntsman Lake
    • South Riana Lake
    • Curries River Reservoir
    • Lake Leake
    • Yingina / Great Lake
    • Bradys Lake
    • Arthurs Lake
    • Lake Sorell
    • Craigbourne Lake
    • River Derwent

To win one of the prizes, you'll need to catch a fish with the correct tag and report the details of your catch, with photo evidence, to the IFS, within 72 hours of capture.  Fish caught during the promotion must be kept with tag intact for verification.

The tagged trout promotion is open to all holders of a current freshwater angling licence, or persons aged under 14 who have the permission of their parent or guardian.

Fish caught before the start, or after the finish of the promotion dates, are not eligible to win a prize.  Tagged fish from previous promotions prior to 2024, are also not eligible.

The current 2024-25 tagged trout promotion is still open until 31 July 2025, with twelve tagged trout still to be caught.
