If you're heading to Lake Sorell, you will now see blue-green algae information signs installed around the lake.

The signs provide information for anglers and other lake users while the Inland Fisheries Service and NRE Tas continue to monitor the non-toxic blue-green algae detected in August.

Monitoring is continuing, with:

• Two rounds of water sampling already completed
• Monthly sampling beginning in late September
• Ongoing assessment of algae abundance and potential toxicity
• Satellite imagery being used to monitor the bloom

The BGA currently present remains non-toxic and this is unlikely to change quickly. You can still fish at Lake Sorell, but please take some simple precautions:

• Avoid direct contact with algae and don't drink lake water.
• Wash skin, clothing and equipment that comes into contact with BGA using clean water.
• Wash your catch in clean water, then gill and gut fish before eating.
• Dispose of internal organs and don't feed fish waste to animals.

Monitoring will continue, with further updates provided if conditions change.
