More chances to win $25,000!

To celebrate the opening of the 2026-27 rainbow trout season on 3 October 2026, and the return of Trout Weekend 2026 (10-11 October 2026), the Inland Fisheries Service has increased your chances of winning $25,000 in the Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion.

From Saturday 3 October 2026, there will be two tagged rainbow trout available in Yingina / Great Lake – adding to the four tagged brown trout already swimming around in the lake.

The addition of the tagged rainbow trout now means that the first tagged rainbow trout AND the first tagged brown trout captured from Yingina / Great Lake will each have a cash prize of $25,000!

That’s $50,000 for two fish!

All other tagged trout from Yingina / Great Lake and around Tasmania during the Promotion will win $5,000 (conditions apply).

The tags are yellow and have unique identifying details.

To win one of the prizes, you'll need to catch a fish with the correct tag and report the details of your catch, with photo evidence, to the IFS, within 72 hours of capture.  Fish caught during the promotion must be kept with tag intact for verification.

The tagged trout promotion is open to all holders of a current freshwater angling licence, or persons aged under 14 who have the permission of their parent or guardian.

Fish caught after the finish of the promotion dates, are not eligible to win a prize.  Tagged fish from previous promotions prior to 2024, are also not eligible.
