Are you an emerging freshwater ecologist who’s eager to take on a dynamic research challenge in one of Australia’s most iconic landscapes?

A fully funded PhD project is now available, focused on understanding lake ecosystems across the unique Central Plateau of Tasmania.

About the Project

This project will investigate how freshwater ecological communities respond to changes in environmental and physical drivers. By integrating field data, citizen science, environmental variables, and advanced modelling techniques, the research will:

  • Improve our understanding of ecological links within Tasmanian lakes.
  • Identify how lake ecosystem communities change over time.
  • Develop robust, predictive network models to inform the management and conservation of unique inland waters.

Why This Project?

You’ll have the opportunity to work at the interface of ecology, environmental science, and applied resource management—contributing knowledge that directly supports the stewardship of Tasmania’s freshwater environments.

Partnerships

This project is a collaboration between:

  • Inland Fisheries Service
  • Anglers Alliance Tasmania
  • Hydro Tasmania
  • University of Tasmania

The closing date for applications is 1 April 2026
