The annual Great Lake Tie-In will be held on Saturday 10 October 2026, from 10 am to 3 pm at the Great Lake Community Centre, 55–57 Cider Gum Road, Miena. This year is a special milestone as they celebrate the event's 10-year anniversary.

A full line-up of talented fly tyers will be demonstrating the art of fly tying throughout the day. Whether you are an experienced angler or simply curious about the craft, there will be plenty to see, learn and enjoy.  Young people are especially welcome and encouraged to try their hand at tying a fly, with guidance and assistance provided by experienced volunteers.

The Graham Blight Remembrance Fly Tying Competition will commence at the official opening at 10 am. The secret competition fly will be revealed on the day and participants will be supplied with all the materials needed to take part.

Lunch and refreshments will be available for purchase from the dedicated team at the Great Lake Community Centre.

To coincide with the Tie-In, Trout Weekend 2026 will be held on Saturday 10 – Sunday 11 October at Liawenee, celebrating the annual rainbow trout spawning run. For more information about Trout Weekend, contact Steve Paterson at ifs.events@ifs.tas.gov.au or visit the IFS website.

With so much happening across the weekend, there will be no shortage of fishing-related activities to enjoy!

The Great Lake Tie-In is an informative and entertaining day for people of all ages and experience levels. Even if you have never picked up a fly rod before, you'll find plenty of friendly people willing to share their knowledge and passion for the sport. A range of trade exhibitors will also be attending, offering fly-tying materials, fishing equipment and other fishing-related products. Visitors will even have the opportunity to try casting a fly rod before heading up to Liawenee to experience the Trout Weekend activities.
