Gone Fishing Day 2025 - Sunday 19 October

Gone Fishing Day is being held on Sunday 19 October 2025.
Gone Fishing Day is all about celebrating the joys of fishing and the numerous benefits it brings. Being a ‘licence free’ day it provides an opportunity for those who do not fish regularly to be introduced to the Tasmanian trout fishery.
To celebrate Gone Fishing Day 2025 there are several exciting events happening around Tasmania on Sunday 19 October.
Hydro Tasmania Trout Expo
Located between number two and number three weirs at Brumby Creek, Cressy, the 2025 Tasmanian Trout Expo once again will bring together anglers, families and outdoor enthusiasts for a lively day of fishing and enjoying the Brumbys Creek area. The event features:
- A tagged trout fishing competition
- Free sausage sizzle from 10:30 am to 1 pm (while stocks last)
- Kid’s giveaways and free entry for all attendees
- Licence free fishing, welcoming newcomers and seasoned fishers alike
- Welcoming back ‘Taste of Trout’ – free tastings of prepared smoked Tasmanian trout.
Make it a family day and see if you can catch yourself a tagged trout!

Devonport Anglers Club & Northwest Junor Anglers Club
Junior angling event – Taylors Dam, Bass Highway, Latrobe (10 am – 3 pm).
Donated prizes and prize for the biggest fish caught by a male angler and a female angler.
Membership $15 per season and $2 per fish out day.
Membership forms can be completed online before 4 pm Saturday 18 October, OR completed on the day.

Lake Dulverton, Oatlands (9 am – 3 pm) for fishing, BBQ and raffle.
Tagged trout competition with 4 chances to catch a $250 tagged fish!

Junior angling event – Bushy Park Estate, 10 Acre Lane, Bushy Park (10 am to 3pm) for kids fishing and a BBQ lunch.

Please note that the licence free status only applies to the trout fishery. A whitebait licence is still required for whitebait fishing.
