This week the Inland Fisheries Service conducted monitoring at Lake Sorell to measure the success of recent trout recruitment events.

The results from this work were positive with good numbers of trout fry found in and around the spawning creeks. Fry were also found spread out across rocky and weedy habitat around the entire lake.

There were also a number of trout ranging from 90 mm to 140 mm found which indicates good recruitment and survival from the 2023 spawning season.

Reports from the lake indicate that anglers casting lures or flies into structure around the edge of the lake are being rewarded with some excellent fish.

Anglers trolling hard bodied lures in the middle of the lake may be finding the fishing a bit more challenging, however the fishing should improve towards the end of the season when the water temperature cools and the trout become more active.

The outlook for Lake Sorell is very good with plenty of young trout coming into the system and an abundance of food available for them to grow quickly into trophy sized fish.

This water should produce some excellent fishing over the coming seasons.
