Opening Weekend Option #7 - Blackmans Lagoon

Opening weekend option #7 is one of the best still-water fisheries in the northeast, Blackmans Lagoon.
Blackmans Lagoon is a renowned early season water featuring extensive aquatic vegetation that is full of food for trout. The result of this is plenty of well-conditioned fish and several larger than average trout being caught there each season.
Fly fishing is one of the main early season attractions, with wet flies fished along the weed edges accounting for many trout. There is a large population of galaxias species present, which the trout are well accustomed to eating. Lure anglers will do well spinning from the shore and drift spinning from a boat. Because of the extensive vegetation present, trolling can be challenging at times.
Over the past months our stocking team have added a further 200 rainbow and 250 brown trout into the lagoon.
For anglers using a boat, be careful when launching and be prepared to use four-wheel drive when retrieving your boat from the shallow, sandy, ramp area. An informal camping area exists to the west of the boat ramp, and anglers are reminded that most of the lagoon lies within the Waterhouse Conservation Area, managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service.
At just above sea level, Blackmans Lagoon is a great place to start your trout fishing season. For further information check out our Blackmans Lagoon Fact Sheet and the InFish App.
