Dr Jaime McAllister will join the IFS in March 2026

The Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) is pleased to announce that Dr Jaime McAllister will be joining the IFS in early 2026, in a new role entitled - Manager (Recreational Fisheries).

Jaime has worked at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) since 2008 where he has been involved in fisheries research and applied fisheries management projects covering several recreational and commercial fish species.  Throughout this time Jaime has developed a broad skill set across fisheries stock assessment, environmental monitoring, spatial ecology, fish movement behaviour, and aquaculture research, with a focus on communication and stakeholder engagement.

With a passion for freshwater fisheries, Jaime started his career at the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) in 2006, firstly as a work experience student and later as an honours researcher and Fisheries Management Officer encompassing a wide range of duties that included native species surveys, habitat rehabilitation, invasive fish removal, and trout population monitoring and stocking.

Jaime is a keen trout angler who is very excited about his return to the IFS and to advancing the protection and development of our inland recreational fishery.

Dr McAllister will be commencing the role in early March 2026 and will be based in New Norfolk.
