Hydro Tasmania updates ahead of trout fishing season

A reminder to check Hydro Tasmania alerts before embarking on a fishing trip. The following alerts will be of particular interest:

Woods Lake

Hydro Tasmania continues to monitor a non-toxic blue-green algae bloom at Woods Lake. While the bloom is non-toxic, direct contact or consumption of blue-green algae can pose a health risk. People are advised not to enter the water and to avoid exposure to water spray if boating on the lake. If you do have significant contact with the water, wash yourself down with clean water to remove any algae. Wash and dry all clothing and equipment with clean water. Any fish caught should be washed in clean water, gilled, gutted and all internal organs disposed of. Care should be taken that animals are not fed or allowed to eat the entrails of these fish.

Arthurs Lake campgrounds

The maintenance works at Jonah Bay and Pumphouse Bay campgrounds have been finalised and the sites will be open to the public in time for fishing season.

All seasonal sites at Jonah Bay have been allocated through a lottery, and approximately 23 sites are available for short-term stays. A few seasonal sites are still available at Pumphouse Bay and up to 30 sites are available for short-term stays.

To book a camping spot at either campground, contact the new management via arthurslakecampgrounds@gmail.com or +61 3 6259 8173. All campsite registration, and payment, must be completed at the Arthurs Lake Roadhouse.  Please be sure to call in before driving to the campsites.

Butlers Gorge Road

Works are continuing at Lake King William for the Tarraleah upgrades and the Butlers Gorge Road closure will be extended for a further 12 months. The road will be closed on weekdays from 7am – 5pm and open on public holidays and weekends. The boat ramp will be closed during the week and open on public holidays and weekends. The Lake King William campground will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
