With the 2018-19 brown trout fishing season closing last Sunday night, anglers took advantage of the Easter and Anzac Day long weekends to chase their final trout of the season. The weather was superb for fishing over Easter. The season closing weekend was a little more challenging.

Our Officers patrolled everywhere, from Lake Piemen in the west, to the South Esk River at Upper Esk in the northeast. We inspected 274 angling licences and 58 boats.

Two anglers were fishing without a licence, and two people were not wearing their PFD. We also issued a conditional caution for a vessel that was not carrying the minimum safety equipment.

We saw some good catches in our travels. Woods Lake, Bronte Lagoon and Arthurs Lake were among the standouts.

The news from Huntsman Lake and Lake Burbury suggested good catches too. These waters are open all year round so they are worth visiting if you have not had enough trout fishing!
