As part of the lead up to the World Fly Fishing Championship 2019, fly tying and fishing clubs of Tasmania present the Great Lake Tie-In (GLTI). There are a range of activities planned for the weekend of Friday 12 to Sunday 14 October.

On Friday 12 October at 7.30 pm, the Inland Fisheries Service will present Talk trout Tasmania 2018 at the Miena Community Centre. Hear the latest from IFS management team as they talk about fishery management, wild adult trapping, fishery performance assessments and give an update on lakes Sorell and Crescent. There will be supper provided and the bar will be open.

On Saturday, the 13 October prominent Tasmanian fly tyers from around the state will demonstrate the “Art of Fly Tying” at the Miena Community Centre from 10 am to 4 pm. The Miena Community association will be fundraising with a range of food and beverages available.

Sunday 14 October is take a kid fishing day, at the Central Highlands Lodge Dam from 10am - 4pm. The IFS have stocked some great trout for the kids to catch!

The GLTI has been organised by a dedicated team headed by Graham Blight, along with members Anna Bellette, Malcolm Crosse and Stephen Butler from the Tasmanian Fly Tyers Club.

The GLTI organiser, Graham Blight, said the Tie-In is open to the public, there are demonstrations and displays that will be of interest not only to fly fishers but to the wider community.

“The Tie-In is a coming together of fly tyers from around the state with over 20 tyers from 8 clubs from Tasmania and interstate demonstrating on the day. “

“There will also be trade displays from local suppliers, the Inland Fisheries Service, and Malcolm Crosse, Director of Operations for the World Fly Fishing Championship 2019 will be in attendance to answer queries. This will be a great opportunity for the community to learn and exchange ideas”. Mr Blight said.

The Great Lake Tie-In will be held at the Miena Community Hall, from 10 am to 4pm Saturday 13th October. There will be a gold coin donation including great Silent Auction prizes . The Miena Community association on the day will run food and bar facilities.
