Lake Crescent Jetty - Construction Underway!
Construction has commenced of a new jetty at the Lake Crescent boat ramp.
Collaboratively funded by Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST), the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS), Central Highlands Council and Anglers Alliance Tasmania (AAT), the new construction is expected to take 2 weeks to complete.
Lake Crescent is one of Tasmania's most renowned trophy fish waters, and fishing is at its best in the early part of the brown trout season each year. This new jetty will make launching and retrieving boats much easier and safer, particularly at times when the lake is busy.
Please note - the lake level is currently low due to reduced recent rainfall and inflows, and due to being towards the end of the irrigation season. The IFS is also aware that there is significant silt build up on the bottom of the canal that leads to the lake. Under these current conditions, navigation of the canal into the lake by boat is extremely challenging and not advisable.
While we expect the lake to refill over the winter period, making boat access easier and use of the new jetty possible for the 2026-27 trout season, the silt build up, together with possible management options, are currently being discussed with relevant stakeholders.
