The Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) have advised that public access to Pioneer Lake has been restored following the successful completion of the Pioneer Dam decommissioning project.

The project, delivered by PWS, marks an important milestone in ensuring the long-term safety and sustainability of the Pioneer Lake area while continuing to support community enjoyment of this valued local destination.

PWS engaged Shaw Contracting to undertake the works, with Entura providing engineering, environmental oversight and superintendent services throughout the project. The works were completed ahead of the expected schedule, allowing the area to reopen to the public.

While public access has now been restored, PWS and Entura will continue to undertake inspections and monitoring of the site over the coming months as part of the rehabilitation and revegetation program.

In preparation for the re-opening a total of 550 rainbow trout were recently stocked into Pioneer Lake, ensuring the fishery is ready to provide excellent fishing opportunities from day one, and providing another fantastic trout fishing opportunity in north-east Tasmania!
