Last Saturday Inland Fisheries Service staff visited Lake Leake, on the back of good reports of well conditioned trout being caught in recent weeks!

Our visit coincided with a Launceston Angling Club competition with club members braving the poor weather and being rewarded with some good catches.

Most of the fish caught were brown trout with a few rainbow trout in the mix.

The fish ranged from 800 g to 2.5 kg and were in excellent condition.

The most popular fishing methods were trolling with hard bodied lures and drift spinning with a mixture of hard bodies and soft plastics. Most of the fish taken were in the deeper sections of the lake.

The current lake level and water quality is providing good fishing, with the trout feeding heavily on snails.

A trip to Lake Leake over the coming weeks would definitely be worthwhile.

Lake Leake also holds a $5,000 tagged trout as part of the 2025-26 Tagged Trout Promotion
