Four Springs Lake report - early spring action!

Peter Quigley - Four Springs Lake

It has been a great start to the season at Four Springs Lake, with plenty of anglers trying their luck and lots of nice fish being caught. Fly fishing has been especially popular lately, both from the shore, and for those accessing the lake in kayaks and boats.

The first dun hatches of the season appeared toward the end of September, and the trout have wasted no time locking into this food source. There’s something very special about fishing a dun hatch, and it’s one of those classic Four Springs moments that fly anglers really look forward to each year. On top of that, black spinners have also started making an appearance, which is another encouraging sign.

Some solid brown trout have been landed, with a few up to around 2 kg and plenty of well conditioned fish around the 1 kg mark. There has also been a run of chunky rainbows, in the 600 g to 700 g bracket, taken on all methods.  Bait fishers drifting natural mudeyes have also picked up some nice brown trout.

Four Springs Lake has been encouraging and is firing up nicely.  Weather conditions have been challenging at times in recent weeks however with predicted mild temperatures and overcast days the fishing should get even better!
