Rainbow trout being released into Curries River Reservoir

Opening weekend option #10 is Curries River Reservoir, just a short drive from Georgetown in the north. Curries River Reservoir is an excellent fishery that accommodates all styles of trout fishing and is always very popular in the early season.

Our stocking team have done their best to boost your chances of catching in Curries River Reservoir this year, with 1,580 brown trout and 800 rainbow trout stocked over recent months. In addition to this, there is also one fish at large worth $5,000 to the angler lucky enough to catch it as part of our 2025-26 tagged fish promotion.

For the bait angler, plenty of tracks are found around the reservoir providing several options for shore-based fishing. Traditional baits such as worms and grubs, along with Powerbait will work well early season. Lure anglers will find plenty of accessible deep shores to cast from, and boats are permitted for those wanting to troll using electric motors or manual propulsion. Large wet flies mimicking the galaxias species present in the reservoir will work well also, particularly along the shallower shores.

Works completed on the access roads and tracks around Curries last year make it much easier to drive around. Reminder to anglers that it is not permissible to use petrol powered outboard motors on Curries River Reservoir.
