Over the coming days, leading into the opening of the brown trout season, we will go through the very best fishery options for your first trip of the season.  Stay tuned to our news page or Instagram page for information on these featured waters.

Recent long overdue rains have began to top up our lakes and rivers and hungry brown trout have finished spawning ready to put condition back on.

Our stocking team has been very busy throughout the closed season.  All stocking information can be found here.

The IFS has also launched the Tagged Trout Promotion for the 2025-26 season, with 30 tagged fish stocked into 13 different waters. This year the first tagged fish caught from Yingina / Great Lake on or after 2 August 2025 will be worth a whopping $25,000, with all remaining tagged fish worth $5,000. The full list of tagged fish for the 2025–26 season can be found Tasmanian Tagged Trout Promotion - Inland Fisheries Service.

Licences are now available online, at Service Tasmania shops and selected tackle stores around the state.

We hope you are looking forward to the season ahead as much as we are!
