40 Years of Opening Morning Banter!

Dudley has bragging rights for the 2025-26 season! A ripper rainbow from opening morning.

Saturday's trout season opening saw a time-honoured tradition play out for the 40th year in a row!

A small group of anglers from Penguin once again donned their winter woollies, armed to the teeth with all things fishing and greeted the new season at dawn.

Their numbers have dwindled over these past 40 years, and as a mark of respect, a minute of silence is observed in their honour and in remembrance of many successful forays, prior to the first cast of the day.

The opening morning celebration would not be complete without the fire pot and traditional breakfast of steak, snags, bacon, eggs and black pudding washed down with the occasional sip of some inner fortitude!

Competition is fierce and sometimes skulduggery raises its ugly head! Many past stories were recalled, but if the truth were told, the biggest part of the fish is always the 'tale'.

Tight lines for all for the upcoming season!
