Big female carp removed from Lake Sorell!

Field assistant Helen O’Neill with the 1.9kg female carp

Recently a 1.9kg female carp was caught from a big fyke net on the Silver Plains Marsh at Lake Sorell. This is the biggest carp caught so far this season, and had the largest proportion of eggs per body weight than any other fish from the 2009 cohort ever caught. This indicates that this fish was ready to spawn if given the right conditions. When you take into account a 4kg carp can produce up to 1 million eggs, this fish was a very significant capture and great that it is now out of the lake!
