16-11-2010

Inland Fisheries Service together with the Parks and Wildlife Service has recently completed interpretation, signage and a brochure for the Western Lakes Wilderness Fishery under a project funded by the Australian Tourism Development Program through Anglers Alliance Tasmania.

Western Lakes Wilderness Fishery Signage and Interpretation

Gateway to Tasmania's world renowned wilderness fishery

Anglers Alliance Tasmania (AAT) secured funding from the Australian Tourism Development Program (ATDP) to develop and implement a system of interpretation, directional signage and brochure for the Western Lakes Wilderness Fishery accessible from Liawenee via Lake Augusta Road.

Inland Fisheries Service and Parks and Wildlife Service staff worked together to develop and implement the project that was completed in early November 2010.

The project included replacement of directional signs throughout the Western Lakes road network from Liawenee to Lake Ada, signs with maps and information specific to the Talinah Lagoon and Pillans-Julian Lakes vehicle tracks and a visitors lay-by on Lake Augusta Road with detailed information, maps and track information.

The full colour brochure is directed primarily at anglers and contains a map of the area accessible from Lake Augusta Road, angling notes, angling regulations specific to the Western Lakes and general information.

The project is designed to enhance the experience for anglers and other visitors and to promote the values of the Western Lakes, Central Plateau Conservation Area and the World Heritage Area.
