The Inland Fisheries Service delivered another Christmas gift to anglers today (Tuesday 22 December) with the release of 850 plate size Atlantic salmon at Craigbourne Dam, adding to last week’s stocking of 275 trophy size fish.

This is great news for anglers just in time for the Christmas holiday fishing season and it will hopefully attract attention from young anglers and novice fishers, and boost the interest in freshwater fishing this summer.

The fish are surplus commercial stock donated by Tassal Pty Ltd and Craigbourne is an ideal location, being close to a major population centre and with easy access for family fishing.

The fishery at Craigbourne Dam has been targeted for stocking by the Service due to its previous popularity and amazing return from the brink of non-existence this year after being practically empty last summer.
