Anglers will be doubly pleased today with the opening of the trout fishing season and the chance to catch a tagged trout worth $1,000. The Inland Fisheries Service released the trophy rainbow trout earlier this week to give the fish enough time to adjust to its new surroundings before the hunt begins this weekend. The Fish4Cash promotion is designed as an added incentive to local anglers and to encourage more Tasmanians to have a go at trout fishing this season. A total of six tagged fish will be released at various waters over the coming season. Each is worth $1,000 to the licensed angler who returns the tag, together with their licence details and the whole fish to the Service before the end of the season. The blue tag is labelled for the promotion with Fish4Cash and can be distinguished from other tags used by the Service in routine survey work. The first fishery to get one of the tagged fish is Bradys Lake. Apart from the chance to catch the tagged trophy rainbow, the Bradys chain offers anglers a good opportunity to catch any of a number of species upon the opening of the season. Bradys has been stocked recently with brook trout, adult brown trout and trophy sized Atlantic salmon. There are also good numbers of rainbow trout to be found there.
