First of the Season’s Spring Stockings
On Thursday 2 September 2010, the Service undertook stockings at Brushy Lagoon and Craigbourne Dam with large Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout, as well as at four waters in the North East of the State with some smaller sized rainbows. These fish were donated by two of the Service’s aquaculture industry partners, Petuna Aquaculture (formerly Sevrup) and Huon Aquaculture’s Springfield Hatcheries.

Anglers in the North and South will be pleased to hear that Brushy Lagoon received 200 Atlantic salmon and 110 rainbow trout, while Craigbourne Dam received 330 of the Atlantic salmon. These fish were ex-brood stock donated by Petuna Aquaculture. The rainbows weighed around 2.5 kg on average and the salmon, 2 kg with some monsters weighing up to 5 kg.
Springfield Hatcheries donated the yearling rainbows stocked into the North East waters, with 1500 fish weighing about 80 g going into Blackmans Lagoon, and Big and Little Waterhouse lakes. A small number (45) of adult rainbows weighing around 2.5 kg were also released into the Pioneer Mine Hole.
