Lucky angler, Vic Muirhead with his hefty catch at Brushy Lagoon

On Wednesday 3 August, the Inland Fisheries Service stocked Brushy Lagoon with 200 large rainbow trout weighing from 3 to 8 kg (an average of 5.5 kg) and 100 Atlantic salmon weighing on average 2.5 kg. The ex-broodstock domestic fish were kindly donated by Petuna Aquaculture.

It didn’t take long before some keen local anglers had learnt about the stocking through a lucky encounter with IFS staff on their return journey. They were able to take advantage of this early news and visited Brushy Lagoon the next day. They were duly rewarded with a feed of these hefty ‘stockies’.

Brushy Lagoon is open to fishing all year with the hours restricted to one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset. It should be well worth a visit early in the season.
