Angling at the Derwent Valley Autumn Festival
The Inland Fisheries Service joined with the New Norfolk Licenced Anglers Assocation to provide angling information and plug casting activities at the recent Derwent Valley Autumn Festival, held on the banks of the River Derwent. A host of budding young anglers were rewarded with prizes and giveaways for taking part in the casting competitions.
Perfect weather on Sunday 18 April saw an estimated 15,000 people flock to the Esplanade on the River Derwent for the annual Autumn Festival at New Norfolk.
Inland Fisheries and the New Norfolk Licenced Anglers Association combined to display angling information and plug casting demonstration for junior anglers. Anglers Alliance Tasmania, together with Australian Fishing Trade Association, donated 5 rod and reel combos as prizes for junior anglers hitting the targets.
Hundreds of budding junior anglers tried their skills at the plug casting target range under the watchful eyes of Tim Lowe, Ray Aitchison, Wayne Perkins and other club members. The Service provided information on anglers access, licences, places to fish and various giveways such as caps, fish rulers and stickers.
