$3,500 for Whitebait Poaching

A North West Coast man has been charged $3,500 for taking 15 kg of whitebait from Deep Creek near Smithton, which is a closed water for whitebaiting.
A North West Coast man, Roger James Lambert, 52 of Montagu pleaded guilty recently in the Smithton Magistrates Court for taking whitebait from a closed water. He was convicted and fined $3,500.
The Court heard that Inland Fisheries inspectors observed the offender take whitebait from Deep Creek, which is closed to whitebait fishing. He was apprehended and found in possession of 15 kg of whitebait.
The Inland Fisheries Service is also seeking to have the offender disqualified from holding a recreational whitebait licence for a period of five years.
