Changes to parking and roads at Arthurs Lake

by Tim Farrell — 03:49 23-11-2007

Due to low water levels at Arthurs Lake new arrangements have been put in place to accommodate vehicle and trailer parking closer to the launching area. The ‘No parking below this point’ signs have been removed and a designated parking area on the southern (Canal) side of the ramp has been cleared of rocks and signposted. Boaters are encouraged to park appropriately and not to obstruct the launching area particularly at the end of the ramp. Leave plenty of room for a car and trailer to turn and launch or retrieve safely. Anglers will also be pleased and relieved to know that Gunns Marsh Rd. from the B51 (Poatina Rd) junction to Jonah Bay campground will be graded and repaired over the next week in time for the coming holiday season. Hydro are funding the works which commenced on 23rd November and are due for completion in early December.

by Tim Farrell — 06:58 20-08-2007

Anglers Alliance Tasmania (AAT) believes that the structural organisation of angling clubs in Tasmania is at a critical stage of development and is seeking immediate action to strengthen its foundation. In particular, AAT points to decreasing support for the three regional umbrella Associations in the North, North West and South – as indicated by the recent drop in number of affiliated clubs - and notes the difficulty in filling Committee positions. The IFS and AAT extend an invitation for up to two members of all Tasmanian angling Clubs to attend a watershed meeting to discuss the future of Clubs and additionally enjoy a tour of the IFS’s new hatchery and offices. THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO TELL US HOW YOU VIEW THE FUTURE OF CLUBS AND HOW THE STRUCTURES COULD BE IMPROVED. Time to keep an eye on lake levels

by Tim Farrell — 23:49 14-02-2008

With water levels at many of the State’s prime fishing waters at or close to historical lows, it is important that anglers think carefully about boating. Lake levels at Hydro storages can be seen by going to this URL http://www.hydro.com.au/home/Tourism+and+Recreation/Lake+Levels.htm It is important to check the level of waters that you intend to fish for the sake of safety as well as for the prospect of fishing success. The current level of Great Lake means that majority of boat ramps will soon be unserviceable leaving Boundary Bay the as the only safe location for the launch and retrieve of all but the smallest of boats. When the level drops below 17 m FSL only the Boundary Bay ramp is useable. With low water levels there is an increasing likelihood that previously submerged hazards will now be exposed or close to the water surface. Anglers should exercise caution if they are unfamiliar with waters at the current low levels.
