Four Springs All Clear for Blue Green Algae
The Inland Fisheries Service wishes to advise anglers that the public health notice regarding blue green algae at Four Springs Lake has been removed by the Meander Valley Council. This comes after recent sampling at three locations in the Lake showed no presence of cynobacteria.
Outcome of Public Meeting on Boating at Penstock Lagoon
Nearly 100 anglers who regularly fish at Penstock Lagoon (most using a boat) attended a meeting by the Inland Fisheries Service on Saturday 4 February in Miena to discuss a proposal to prohibit the use of petrol outboards on the lagoon. The meeting was designed to obtain preliminary feedback on this issue and gauge the level of concern by users of Penstock Lagoon.
Public meeting announced to discuss boating regulations at Penstock Lagoon
A public meeting will be held on Saturday 4 February at 6 pm at the Miena Community Centre to discuss a proposed change to the use of electric outboard motors only whilst boating at Penstock Lagoon. All interested anglers are welcome to attend.

The Inland Fisheries Service is proud to announce that Tasmania will host the XV Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships from 15-18 February.
Blue Green Algae Awareness over Summer
Anglers are advised to be aware that blooms of blue green algae may occur at certain inland waters during the warmer summer months. The Inland Fisheries Service recommends anglers observe any public health notices regarding the risk from skin contact with the water where blue green algae blooms have been identified.
Tassal Salmon for Meadowbank Lake
The Inland Fisheries Service received the latest donation of 1,705 good quality Atlantic salmon from Tassal on Wednesday 12 January, with approximately 1,560 released into Meadowbank Lake.
Strong Government Support to Manage Carp in Tasmania
The fight to eradicate carp from Lake Sorell has been given a major boost with an $820,000 grant from the Gillard Government’s Caring for Our Country initiative. The two-year funding for the Inland Fisheries Service Carp Management Program will help to protect the endangered golden galaxia fish and conserve biodiversity, particularly in Interlaken Lakeside Reserve, one of the nominated Australian Ramsar sites of national environmental significance.
Water Level Changes at Bronte Lagoon
Hydro Tasmania will undertake repair and maintenance work in coming months that will affect water levels at Bronte Lagoon. To allow work in the canal, Bronte Lagoon will be drawn down to lower than the preferred angling minimum water level from 6 February to 9 March. The IFS and MAST will conduct works on the boat ramps in the area to capitalise on the period of lower water levels. Anglers Licence Fees at Work - Lake Echo Road Upgrade
The road to Large Bay, Lake Echo has been upgraded over the last three days by the Inland Fisheries Service to improve access by all vehicles to the north-western side of the lake in preparation for the Christmas break. With the consistent stocking over the past few years and the current high water levels, Lake Echo should provide some good fishing over the coming months.
Tassal Salmon Arrive for Xmas
During December, Tassal generously donated approximately 6,530 well conditioned Atlantic salmon to the Inland Fisheries Service for the benefit of recreational anglers. With the fish, the Service stocked three event waters in the north and Craigbourne Dam in the south.
Lake Gordon Boat Launching Site Options
The boat launching area at Boat Ramp Road, Lake Gordon is now usable due to improved water levels and should provide anglers with a good alternative to the facility near Gordon Dam this summer.
Huntsman Lake Gate Opening Hours
Rivers and Water Supply Commission advise that the summer gate opening hours for Huntsman Lake are: Boat ramp and Dam : Open 5.00am and Close 8.00pm The Dairy day use area: Open 5.00am and Close 9.00pm
Woods Lake Road maintenance completed
Maintenance on Woods Lake Road has now been completed in time for the holiday season.

Woods Lake Road Open and Ramp Upgraded
Work has been completed on the boat launching facility at Woods Lake and the road is open for weekend anglers.
Woods Lake Boat Launching Facility Upgrade
Work commenced to upgrade the boat launching facility at Woods Lake on Monday 14 November. This work involves the construction of a 30 metre breakwall at the existing boat ramp as well as maintenance to the boat ramp itself and the parking area.
Little Pine Lagoon Boat Ramp Upgrade Completed
The Inland Fisheries Service recently completed maintenance work on the boat ramp at Little Pine Lagoon which was undertaken in response to reports from regular visitors to Little Pine Lagoon and funded by Marine and Safety Tasmania.
Salmon Donated by Tassal for New Norfolk Junior Anglers Day
Tassal kindly donated 30 well conditioned Atlantic salmon this week for the New Norfolk Angling Club’s ‘Junior Anglers Fishing Day’. The event will be held this Sunday 13 November at the club’s designated junior angling water, known as the Duck Pond, near Bushy Park.
