A current angling Licence is required to fish at any inland water in Tasmania (apart from a registered private fishery or in specified bream waters) during the open season that applies to that water, unless you are under 14 years of age.
Inland waters include all waters on the inland side of the Seaward Limit.
The fishing season generally runs from August through to May, but several popular waters, situated close to population centres in various regions of the State, are open for fishing all year round.
Most waters are open to all methods of angling in line with the brown trout season, and have a 12 fish bag limit and a minimum catch size of 220 mm in length. A small number of waters have Restricted access for anglers with a disability or for junior anglers, and some waters are Closed at all times or Closed for specific periods.
