A current Angling licence is required to fish at inland waters in Tasmania if you are 14 or over. The licence period runs from the 1st August to 31 July each year. Several licence options are available from 48 Hour, 7 Day, 28 Day and full season and there are significant discounts for pensioners, juniors and seniors. A renewal notice is sent to full season licence holders at the start of July each year.

You can purchase or renew online using using the Service's online licence systemLicences are also sold at all Service Tasmania shops and over 100 licence agents throughout the State. Licence selling agents are located in fishing tackle and sports stores, as well as on the Spirit of Tasmania ferries.

Whitebait licences are issued as a separate fishing licence, available online from this website, through Service Tasmania shops and selected agents prior to the season, which runs from 1 October to 11 November each year. There are specific regulations governing whitebait fishing, which are provided with the whitebait licence.
